The Museo ABC holds a digital meeting to discuss the issue of USA: A New Market For The Spanish Illustration, on the occasion of the exhibition Ilustradores Españoles: El Color del Optimismo (Spanish Illustrators: The Color of Optimism) organized by the Embassy of Spain’s Cultural Office in Washington, D.C. from the 21th of April to the 26th of June.
This digital meeting is mainly addressed to Spanish illustrators who want to found out about: the opportunities they have in the USA as illustrators, how is the market of illustration in the USA, the internationalization of the publishing sector, and presence of Spanish illustrators in the US.
For this we have the participation of José Villarubia, Mario Suárez and Ricardo Cavolo.
José Villarrubia is the head of illustration at Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) and regularly works as a colorist for major USA comic publishers: Marvel Comics, DC Comics and Dark Hourse Publishing. In his role as an illustrator his collaborations with Alan Moore in Promethea, Voice of the Fire and The Mirror of Love stand out.
Mario Suárez is a curator, a founder partner of Gunter Gallery and an art and trends specialized journalist. He is a regular collaborator in El País, GQ Magazine and Esquire, among other publications. Suarez is the curator of the Spanish Illustrators’ exhibition: El Color del Optimismo (The Color of Optimism).
Ricardo Cavolo is an illustrator. His tattooed and circus beings have appeared in media such as Rolling Stone or Yorokobu. His books has been published in Lunwerg, SM, Periférica, Limina (Italy) and Two Dollar Radio (United States). His artwork has been exhibited internationally and has also illustrated record covers and posters for record labels.
