From the oriental printing to the surrealist automatic drawing

The course proposes an open and creative approach to the drawing as a form of registring a printed image. The student will be directed through diverse oriental printing techniques and the later manipulation of the composition to discover new ways of intervention in drawings.

The student will start from a previous sketch made at home which will be traced to the original matrix and then we will carve the reported image. Afterwards, we will print it with spoon to the paper (oriental printing). We will work once the card is dry, by manipulating the composition with automatic surrealistic drawing techniques (grattage, frottage, puchoir and collage) to insist in the mediation of «intermediate supports». To form the final image we won’t use traditional tools (pencil, charcoal, deep pen, pastels) but new tools like wrinkled papers, cartons, ink pads and stamps (previously made by the pupils) and other textured materials. The last 15 minutes of the class will be usually used to groupal correcting and to share and exchange opinions.
