The exhibition #FINAESTAMPA_ is a project by Museo ABC presented at the Cristóbal Balenciaga Museoa thanks to the collaboration of Obra Social ”la Caixa”. An opportunity to enjoy the strength and drive of the union between two disciplines which once again ride side by side this decade: illustration and fashion. The work of the twenty-two artists present here proves that there is no border between art and illustration. Today what we appreciate is their capacity to create a language of their own. And thanks to the social networks, where they have found greater projection, we are now living the second golden age of this discipline.
#FINAESTAMPA_ summarises a specific moment, that of fashion illustration at the end of the 21st century’s second decade, through works, aesthetics and techniques that are taking place in our time. The X-ray of the present day of a discipline which, since its origins, translates as the reflection of society, with as many sensitivities and nuances as the people who make it up.
Cristóbal Balenciaga (Getaria, Gipuzkoa, 1895 – Xàvia, Alacant, 1972), master of haute couture, inspired a whole generation of illustrators with his creations. His characteristic cuts and volumes can be found in the works of a. t. c. (Ángeles Torner Cervera), Federico Correa, Coti (Lucrecia Feduchi), and many others. Illustrations which leapt from the artists’ studios into the fashion, culture or travel sections of the Blanco y Negro magazine and the newspaper ABC.
