THE ICEBERG EFFECT
SPANISH DRAWING AND ILLUSTRATION BETWEEN TWO ENDS OF CENTURY
Colección ABC exhibition. El efecto iceberg (The Iceberg Effect) represents two remarkable experiences: the culmination of a long journey and the beginning of a new adventure with the inauguration of Museo ABC in 2010. Torcuato Luca de Tena turned Blanco y Negro magazine into a print media showcase for the artists to show their artwork by facilitating them their pages and technology since the first issue, 1st of May 1891. Painting was until then an intimate art only available for a minority, but it then was suddenly introduced into the press, a joy available for multitudes. Not only the best artists of the time appeared in the pages of Blanco y Negro magazine, its founder endeavored to discover and encourage new values. This book is created a hundred twenty years later and is considered as the reference publication of
Museo ABC and of ABC newspaper –which has always supported drawing and illustration teachers. Juan Manuel Bonet, curator of the show, has selected the best artworks out of the 200000 Colección ABC’s pieces and has made a summary of the biography of every artist that has published in the newspaper.
