CARLOS SÁENZ DE TEJADA

THE ELEGANCE OF THE DRAWING

For almost ten years, Carlos Sáenz de Tejada (Tangier, 1897 – Madrid, 1958) is a first row witness of all the latest trends presented in the coture shows in Paris. Every fashion show of house brands such as Worth, Patou, Schiaparelli, Hermès, Chanel or Rochas, has an illustrated chronicle and an article signed by Thérèse Clemenceau –daughter of the French Prime Minister– in our ABC newspaper pages and in Blanco y Negro magazine. A world of elegant women and sophisticated environments that the artist also recreates for international magazines such as Harper’s Bazaar or Vogue.Seen as futile and idle women, their support to the fashion trends helped shape and liberate the modern woman.

The book compiles beautiful illustrations by Sáenz de Tejada and critical texts by Jaime Brihuega (History of Art professor in the Complutense University of Madrid), Judith Thurman (reporter for The New Yorker) and Jesús Cano (designer and journalist).
