FRANCISCO LÓPEZ RUBIO
THE MASTER OF LESS IS MORE
Museo ABC pays tribute to Francisco López Rubio (Motril 1895 – Madrid 1965) father of Gente Menuda (Little Kids). This great illustrator has vanished from our memory despite being during the twenties and thirties of the last century one of our most popular cartoonists. His creations –El conejo Roenueces, Don Oppas, the magician Pirulo, Professor Bismuto, and Lita and Lito–cheered up the childhood of generations of Spaniards. López Rubio agreed that “less is more”, and worked under a technique called “soft line”, which made him one of the great pioneers of modern graphic design.
