Manuel Antonio Domínguez
The stable relationship
For the past six years, the Museo ABC and the Fundación Banco Santander have supported Contemporary Art with the program Conexiones, which allows —based on the selection of works from its respective collections— the creation of an exhibition project and a catalogue.
In its 13th Edition, Conexiones presents the book La relación estable [The stable relationship] about the artist Manuel Antonio Domínguez (Huelva, 1976). He is considered to be one of the greatest illustrators of his generation. His work falls within the line known as «gender discourse», analysing issues that affect the understanding, creation and collective assessment of the roles of mankind. His style is realist, accurate; he creates watercolours and gouaches with faded colours on white backgrounds. For this exhibition he produced his largest work ever: a 16 meter wall painting. This work has been reflected in the catalogue with a leporello of 8 pages where the reader can appreciate every detail of the masterwork. On one side of the leporello book there is an essay by the curator, Óscar Alonso Molina and by turning the page you find the work waiting to be “unfolded”. In addition the book includes the works chosen and “connected” by the artist. From the Colección Banco Santander he selected a delicious pair of Rococo-styled busts from the Manufactura de Alcora collection (dated around 1750). From the Museo ABC, he has chosen two front pages from the magazine Blanco y Negro, signed by Hipólito Hidalgo de Caviedes and Abelardo Parilla Candela, one featuring men and the other featuring women.
An exquisite book to get lost in the details of a drawing that opens and unfolds to appreciate the meticulous, but also monumental, drawing of 16 meters entitled The stable relationship by Manuel Antonio Domínguez.
